Dr. Lorena Barrientos-Poblete
Summary
She studied Education Chemistry at Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE), where she graduated with distinction as the first of her class. During 2004, as part of her undergraduate Thesis, she performed research on inorganic coordination complexes for dye-sensitized solar cells at the Universidad de Chile. In 2009 she obtained her Doctoral Degree in Chemistry from the Universidad de Chile, working on ordered arrangements of metal nanoparticles onto supramolecular complexes and metal nanostructures (nanowires, nanofibers, thin films). She is currently Associate Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at Department of Chemistry, UMCE. She is interested in the development of a new generation of photocatalyst materials combining supramolecular architectures, nanotechnologies, and nanofabrication with potential antibacterial properties. She obtained fellowships from the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT) in 2005 and from the Improving the Quality and Equity in Higher Education (MECESUP) in 2006 to develop her Doctoral research. In 2009 she obtained her Postdoctoral Fellowship from CONICYT.
